K 40 by Eamonn Doyle / Michael Hoppen Gallery

Eamonn Doyle was born in Dublin in 1969 and studied painting and photography at college. After graduating in 1991, he spent the next two decades producing and publishing music but returned to photography alongside his music practice in 2008.

Between 2014 and 2016, Doyle published three street photobooks that capture the people and urban environment around Dublin’s city centre. These three photobooks (I, ON, and End.) became known has his Dublin Trilogy.

With Doyle’s later photobook K (2018) he moved away from Dublin’s bustling environment to the Western Atlantic edge of Ireland to the volcanic landscapes of Extremadura in Spain. This work, produced a year after his mother’s death, features a spectral womanly figure formed from vibrant veiled cloths. The book explores his mother’s grief after Doyle’s brother died in 1999 and includes overlapped letters from his mother to her deceased son, as well a 10” vinyl recording of an Irish lamentation Keen.

Doyle is represented by Michael Hoppen Gallery (London).
