CARLOS ACOSTA VISITING LAYERS EXHIBITION

Alexandre Arrechea’s Girl in the Arena artwork was a highlight in Acosta’s visit. The sculpture, an edition of three made in Bronze, shows a dancer wearing the structure of a  stadium as a tutu. This artwork is a take on the reach of our actions in a given context and links to Arrechea’s themes of the body, architecture, and surveillance. Cuba’s vibrant history of dance is not only celebrated through Acosta’s achievements but in Arrechea’s newest sculpture and future artworks yet to come.
